St. Vincent's Hospital, the first medical hospital in the southern part of the country, has been in hospital for over 50 years since 1967. In the recent government evaluation, St. Vincent Hospital has been marked with the highest scores in every category including lung cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, stroke, etc. In 1994, the hospital conducted the first successful laparoscopic splenectomy in Korea. In 1996, the hospital conducted the world's first laparoscopic anal sphincter preservation for rectal cancer. The hospital is making every effort to keep on providing better medical services.
It is a leading hospital in southern Gyeonggi-do that provides care to more than 1 million out patients and 250,000 hospitalized patients annually. From 2009, their International Healthcare Center begun to provide medical service for foreigners residing or travelling in Korea and about 1,000 patients a year from different countries visit the International Health Care Center. Beside, St. Vincent plans to form a network with 57 St. Vincent's Hospital in Germany, the United States, Australia, Canada and nine other countries worldwide.
